Baby Monkey Refuge
UX Research & Speculative Design
The Pratt Institute Fitness Center was selected to assess user experience for design development.
This project involved collaborative research conducted by a team of three students at Pratt Institute. The research encompassed on-site spatial analysis, user observation, and interviews. The findings of these activities resulted in several insights and evaluations that were instrumental in the design implementation process.
Rachel Esteban, Elijah Green, and Alé Rogers contributed to this project. Alé Rogers’s contributions in collaboration with these team members are highlighted on this page.
Utilizing the gathered data, a specialized ideation process was employed to introduce diverse modifications to the space.
Each team member was tasked to design a unique alteration for the same space. This project showcase presents the concept of envisioning the space with different users: baby capuchin monkeys. This concept emerged from research insights into socialization, which were subsequently extended to encompass design for play.
The ideation process is visualized below, extracted from user research analysis and observational evaluation ↓
Spatial analysis of structures was employed in order to properly evaluate a speculative change to the space. After forming a structural base of the space, speculative structures were added (and redacted) for the proposed user group ↓
